Education/training

The LaSalle territory is very well endowed in terms of educational resources. Some well known educational institutions have been established there for a number of years, filling diversified training needs, while newer facilities are developing in more specific areas of expertise such as photonics and logistics.

LaSalle possesses:

  • One cegep, Cégep André-Laurendeau, which offers a recognised collegiate education, a cutting edge training service, and a service directed at enterprises
  • Two college level centers dedicated to technological transfers, situated in Cégep André-Laurendeau:
    • OPTECH in optical-photonics
    • L’Institut international de logistique de Montréal (IILM)
  • Five adult education centers
  • The Centre intégré en mécanique, métallurgie et électricité (CIMME)
  • The Collège informatique et d’administration de Verdun-LaSalle 
  • Two school boards each serving either the English or the French population at the primary and secondary levels
  • Sixteen primary schools
  • Five high schools

Population profile

The LaSalle borough numbers 74,763 residents. Multiculturalism is very prevalent and constitutes a major force in the area. The most visible immigrant communities are Italians, at 19,8%, immigrant Indians at 6,8%, and the Polish at 5,6%. In LaSalle, 44,9% of the population is francophone, 27,3% is Anglophone and 25,1% is allophone (it neither has French nor English as a maternal language). More than 60 % of the LaSalle population is bilingual.
